Dining in Fentress County —What to Expect
Fentress County is not a dining destination. There are no white tablecloths, no Michelin stars, and the nearest Chick-fil-A is 55 miles away. What there is: a genuinely great diner, two Mexican restaurants locals swear by, a proper craft brewery that surprises everyone, a pizza buffet that packs out, and a Chinese buffet worth knowing about. Every place listed here has been verified as open. If you find something closed, let us know and we’ll update it.
Always call ahead. Small-town restaurants change hours frequently — especially around holidays, events like FP Truckfest, and slow seasons. Facebook is how most of these businesses announce closures and specials. Hours listed are verified as of 2026 but small restaurants move fast.
Where the LocalsActually Eat
Southern diners are the soul of small-town Tennessee dining. These are the places where locals eat breakfast every morning and the staff knows your order.
The best breakfast in Jamestown — and it’s not close. A genuine old-school diner where locals eat every single day. Country fried steak, fried bologna, pork tenderloin, daily plate lunch specials, and homemade pies. The peanut butter pie and chicken and dumplings special have dedicated followings. Staff knows everyone’s order. Out-of-town visitors consistently call it a hidden gem. Closes at 3pm sharp — plan accordingly.
A solid Southern diner open from early morning to evening — one of the longer-hours options in town. Known for the hometown breakfast platter (eggs, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy), good burgers, catfish platter, and chocolate gravy. Clean, friendly, and reliable.

Two Good Options —Both Worth Trying
Jamestown has two Mexican restaurants and locals are genuinely loyal to both. They’re different enough that you’ll likely end up with a preference.
The older of the two and a genuine community fixture — many locals eat here weekly. Classic Mexican-American fare: burritos, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, chips and salsa on arrival. Family atmosphere, kids menu, consistent service. “We always receive excellent service and great food” is a common refrain. Gets busy Friday and Saturday nights — go early.

Thinking About Living Here?
The dining scene is small but the cost of living, the land, the outdoors, and the community more than make up for it. Tim & Lori Denehy are local agents who know every road in the county.
