Charit Creek Lodge

The Most Unique Overnight Experience in Fentress County

There is no place quite like Charit Creek Lodge. Tucked deep in a valley at the heart of Big South Fork, this rustic off-grid wilderness lodge is accessible only by hiking, mountain biking, or horseback — and that journey in is a big part of what makes it so special. Leave the car behind, lace up your boots, and earn your way to one of the most peaceful places in Tennessee.

The Lodge

Charit Creek Lodge is completely off the grid — no electricity, no cell service, no noise except the creek and the wind in the trees. The lodge is built from historic log structures, including cabins whose original logs were relocated from the nearby Jake’s Place homesite. Guests stay in cozy private cabins lit by lanterns and warmed by wood-burning stoves, with meals provided by the lodge kitchen.

And the food is genuinely good. Despite the remote location, Charit Creek serves hearty, home-cooked meals that hikers and riders look forward to from miles away. Dinner by lantern light after a long day on the trail is the kind of memory you carry with you for years.

Getting There

The most common access point is a 1.1-mile hike downhill from the Twin Arches Trailhead area. The hike back out is uphill, so pace yourself on departure day. The lodge can also be reached via longer loop trails from Bandy Creek and other trailheads. Horses are welcome.

Reservations

Charit Creek Lodge is operated privately. Reservations are essential and the lodge books up months in advance, especially on fall weekends. Visit their website or call ahead to check availability.
