The Best Basecamp in Big South Fork
Bandy Creek Campground is the largest and most developed campground in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, and it serves as the main hub for visitors exploring the Tennessee side of the park. Located just a short distance from the Bandy Creek Visitor Center, the campground offers a wide range of amenities while still delivering the feel of true wilderness camping.
Campground Features
Bandy Creek offers both tent sites and RV sites with electric and water hookups. The campground includes modern restrooms, hot showers, laundry facilities, and a camp store. One of the most popular features is the outdoor swimming pool — a refreshing retreat after a long day on the trail. There’s also a playground for families with young children.
The campground is set in a beautiful forested area with spacious, well-separated sites that provide a good sense of privacy compared to many national park campgrounds. The mix of open and wooded sites means you can choose based on your preference for shade or sunshine.
Trails from Your Doorstep
One of the great advantages of staying at Bandy Creek is the direct trail access. The John Litton Farm Loop, Fall Branch Falls, and numerous other trails can be accessed directly from the campground trailhead without moving your vehicle. You can hike to a waterfall, explore historic farmsteads, and return to camp all on foot — a rare luxury that makes Bandy Creek the best all-around basecamp in Big South Fork.
Reservations
